The probably most idyllic place in Bregenz at Lake Constance is located just a bit outside the city centre, nearby the nature reserve Mehrerauer Ufer. Literally, all you can hear are waves crashing against the shores, in the form of straying woods and stones of all sizes. Tranquillity at its best, just some hundred metres from the buzzing city centre of Bregenz. Bregenz is not only the capital city of Vorarlberg but also home to the legendary opera festival with its stage above the lake, attracting hundreds of tourists each day in the summer months. The target of my evening walk has been the “old root tree”, sitting so peacefully in/above the water, at the shores of the lake. Due to a high water level of Lake Constance at the very moment, this will change pretty soon due to upcoming high temperatures, the final hundred meters have felt like awesome due to walking one centimetre above sea level.
On-site there are several official places for grilling, you need to bring your own coal or collect some wood from nearby, as well as several public benches and stones to sit and relax on. As the route to the old root tree and the nature reserve lead me through a forest it’s highly recommended to bring some insect repellant, as I brought back almost a dozen bites from this single evening… the itching is real!
